 The Special Olympics Massachusetts Winter Games held in early March are a great opportunity for athletes to showcase their love for winter sports and another opportunity for them to experience a full and vibrant lifestyle. The 2010 Winter Games will be March 13th and 14th. Held in the Greater Worcester area in Central Massachusetts, athletes come to compete in any number of sports including, Alpine Skiing, Basketball, Bowling and Floor Hockey. Other winter sports include Nordic Skiing, Figure and Speed Skating and athletes have the opportunity to travel to the Connecticut Winter Games to compete in those sports.
The Winter Games give athletes another chance during the year to train and compete in the sports they adore. And while they are in Central Massachusetts, they can experience the Healthy Athletes program supported by UMass Medical School and get screened for any number of health-related and nutrition issues. Just another way Special Olympics Massachusetts is helping individuals with intellectual disabilities live longer, healthier lives.
