Mike and James Ciociolo Special Olympics golfer Mike Ciociolo and his brother/Unified Partner just returned from the Special Olympics USA National Games in Lincoln Nebraska. They returned with the bronze medal in level 2 golf. Their division was very competitive according to the brothers and they are thankful for the opportunity to go the nationals and earn the bronze.Mike and James have been Unified partners and teammates for quite some time, over 10 years. “It’s a sport that we can play together and have fun,” says James. The brothers are part of the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation program and many of their teammates traveled to Nebraska as well to compete. While at the National Games, Mike had the opportunity to visit the Healthy Athletes venue where a number of different health screenings were taking place. At the Healthy Athletes tent, Mike was able to get a number of screenings. Mike received new batteries for his hearing aids and new tubes to help him hear better. There’s nothing better than hearing a great tee shot on the links. He also received new orthotics to help his feet and new laces so he does not have to struggle with tying his shoes. All in all, a great experience of sports and healthy living for the two brothers. Mike and his team also had the opportunity to get screened in nutrition, hearing, feet and flexibility. And you thought it was just a game… James says that Mike is a real people person and has no problem walking up to people and making their acquaintance. We’re guessing he made a lot of friends while at National Games. See Mike and James in this short video. |
